Greetings from Idaho!

As the only member of '72 who is listed as living in Idaho (at least so far), I feel it incumbent upon me to tout the virtues of this great state. No humidity and no mosquitoes! Enough said. But, just in case that wasn’t enough, great camping, fishing, skiing, hunting and scenery. Mountains, deserts, forests, plains, agriculture & mining. The potatoes are down south in a different time zone so we don't think about them too much.

I don't know if I will be able to attend the reunion; school will have started that week. So, here are the Cliff's Notes version of my last 40 years:

Graduated from Case Western Reserve with a BS in Biomedical Engineering.

Worked at University Hospitals for a little over a year as a lab technician.

Worked as a Metallurgical Engineer for the next 10 years in R & D, as a lab director and in Materials and Processing, primarily in aerospace.

Travelled in Europe for the summer of 1981. Went to 19 different countries - some of which don't even exist anymore. Took the trains, camped and bicycled ~3000 miles.

Met Liz in 1983 - got married in 1984. Liz was teaching at CWRU Law School.

Quit engineering and moved to Moscow, Idaho in 1988 so that Liz could join the faculty at the University of Idaho. Liz is now Associate Dean at the School of Law.

Started Brandt's Woodworking in 1988 out of my home. In addition to numerous sets of kitchen cabinets and remodeling jobs, I made a lot of furniture, a grandfather clock and a harpsichord.

Twins Carolyn and Christian were born in 1990. I stayed home with them while continuing my business part time. I spent a lot of time volunteering at the elementary school and started substitute teaching in the Moscow School District.

Built and moved into our house up on the Moscow Mountain ridge in 1994.

Temporarily moved to Topeka Kansas for the 1999-2000 school year so Liz could do a visiting year at Washburn University - home of the fighting Ichabods! (It's true, you can look it up.)

Returned to Moscow in 2000 and went back to school to become certified to teach math and science in 2001 - 2002.

Started teaching at Moscow High School in 2002. Most recently, I have been teaching Honors Chemistry, Advanced Algebra and Statistics. I also co-coach the Knowledge Bowl Team, build sets for the drama class and judge Drama at the district and state level and mentor the Math Club, Rocket Club and Glee Club.

Current Activities:

Music - I still play the sax a few time a year but with apologies to my fellow bandmates, I have gone over to the dark side, I sing. I've been a member of the Palouse Choral Society (formerly the Idaho Washington Concert Chorale) for the last 22 years. I am currently the Tenor Section Leader and on the Executive Committee. Liz and I were also the co-music directors at our church for 10 years. We both direct bell choirs.

Travel - I have been fortunate to travel extensively around the US and Europe. Much of this travel has involved camping.

Sports - I played and coached hockey while I lived in Cleveland Hts. In Idaho, I have participated in soccer and softball. My current passions are cycling and curling (on ice, that is).

Theater – Liz and I are long time members of Moscow Community Theater. We have acted, Liz costumes and I design and build sets.

My family still lives in Greater Cleveland and I get back there about once a year for visits. If you happen to be in Idaho, stop by for a visit. It's easy to get here. Go west on I-90 for 4 days, turn left, go south for 2 hours and you're in Moscow. See you soon.

July 2012 Updates:

As it happens, I will be at the reuinion this fall. Liz and I decided to take a sabbatical this school year. Liz has a publishing contract for a case book for Community Property (it's a law thing!) and I will be finishing a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction.

We are actually living in Cleveland Heights July-Dec. Starting in Jan., we will be in Europe: Jan.-Mar. in London; Apr.: walking the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage Trail in France and Spain; a couple of weeks in May: riding bikes in the Loire Valley, France; a few weeks in Scandanavia touring and doing some geneology; a couple of weeks in the Shetland Islands in the North of Scotland.

Hope to see you all at the reunion!

Hi Stephen. When did you work for National Acme? I worked for Acme Cleveland Development Co. from 1979 to 1981. I got laid off in the second round of lay-offs when Acme Cleveland led the way in the downsizing movement of the early 80s.
